The early years of quantum Monte Carlo (2): finite-temperature simulations

چکیده
In this article we present the second part of our historical survey on quantum Monte Carlo methods. IWe focus simulations performed at a finite temperature and based path-integral formulation mechanics. We introduce method insist central role played by description transition to superfluidity for Helium 4.

Parallel - tempering Monte Carlo simulations of the finite temperature behavior of „ H 2 O ...
The parallel-tempering Monte Carlo method is used in combination with a Drude model to characterize the (H2O)6 2 cluster over the 50–190 K temperature range. Chainlike structures are found to account for about 50% of the population at 190 K, whereas they are unimportant at the temperatures below about 130 K. At the lowest temperature considered, prismlike structures are dominant. Two new low-en...
متن کاملDouble-layer Heisenberg antiferromagnet at finite temperature: Brueckner theory and quantum Monte Carlo simulations
The double-layer Heisenberg antiferromagnet with intraand inter-layer couplings J and J⊥ exhibits a zero temperature quantum phase transition between a quantum disordered dimer phase for g > gc and a Neel phase with long range antiferromagnetic order for g < gc, where g = J⊥/J and gc ≈ 2.5. We consider the behavior of the system at finite temperature for g ≥ gc using two different and complemen...
متن کاملQuantum Monte Carlo Methods for Nuclei at Finite Temperature
We discuss finite temperature quantum Monte Carlo methods in the framework of the interacting nuclear shell model. The methods are based on a representation of the imaginary-time many-body propagator as a superposition of one-body propagators describing non-interacting fermions moving in fluctuating auxiliary fields. Fermionic Monte Carlo calculations have been limited by a “sign” problem. A pr...
متن کاملConfigurational Temperature Verification of Monte Carlo Simulations
A new diagnostic that is useful for checking the algorithmic correctness of Monte Carlo computer programs is presented. The check is made by comparing the Boltzmann temperature, which is input to the program and used to accept or reject moves, with a configurational temperature k T B config = ∇ ∇ q q Φ Φ 2 2 . Here, Φ is the potential energy of the system and ∇q represents the dimensionless gra...
متن کاملQuantum Monte Carlo Simulations of Exciton Condensates
We have studied scattering states and thermodynamic properties of electron-hole systems. Starting from the constituent electrons and holes and Coulomb interactions, we have used quantum Monte Carlo simulation techniques to sample properties of wavefunctions and thermal density matrices. We have studied three types of systems: (1) the scattering of two excitons, with full-quantum treatment of th...
